Social Alerter is a free service for webmasters that alerts them when their sites are about to go popular on social news and bookmarking websites. It monitors sites like Digg and del.icio.us, and when a monitored website is found, it sends an email to the webmaster.
For this to work, webmasters must first sign up for an account here on Social Alerter. When you sign up, you can specify which websites you would like to track and to where the alert emails should be sent.
The idea of Social Alerter was conceived sometime in early 2007, but I've been too lazy busy to do anything about it. I forgot about it till July 2007 when I decided to actually do it. It helped that I was working on another tool with overlapping functionality, supposed to be housed at one of my other sites (eKstreme.com). The decision was the original SA idea would be merged with the tool in progress and both will be housed here on a separate website. Thus SA was born.
My name is Pierre Far. I'm a scientist by training, working as an innovation consultant 9-5, and PHP hacker and general website builder 5-12 for fun. SA is the fourth site I created, and there are a few more in the pipeline. Any questions or comments just contact me.
And thanks for asking :)
The functionality of SA is custom coded into Drupal as the backend.
Some people helped test SA during development. In no particular order:
